One of the earliest industries to come into existence in the country, the sector accounts for 14% of the total Industrial production, conduces to about 30% of the total exports and is the second largest employment creator.
The Fashion Design and textile industry caters to one of the most basic requirements of people and holds importance; maintaining the prolonged growth for improved quality of life. The sector has a unique position as a self-reliant industry, from the production of raw materials to the delivery of end products, with considerable value-addition at every stage of processing. Over the years, the sector has proved to be a major contributor to the nations' economy.
Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) Fashion Design manufacturing is a graduate level program with the objective to provide adequate knowledge and skills related to textile manufacturing for employment and entrepreneurship.
Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc - Fashion Design & Garment Technology manufacturing) is a three year Degree program with multiple exits such as Diploma /Advanced Diploma relating to Fashion Design manufacturing. The course would provide adequate knowledge and skills for employment in the Fashion Design industry.
The student will have flexibility by means of multiple exit points.
Curriculum details would include a suitable mix of general education and skill development which are designed for specific job roles in Fashion Design industry. The course includes content which equip skill development component in the candidate. Each year includes practical as well as theory courses which impart appropriate and relevant knowledge of the garment industry. The candidate will be exposed to project work and on the job training in the industry so as to become ready to work in the Fashion Design industry.
Various visiting guest faculty from the Indian Fashion Design Industry as well as the experienced Faculty of the institute would be sharing their knowledge, information, experience, technology with students.
The eligibility condition for admission to B.Voc programme shall be 10+2 or equivalent, in any stream.
The overall employment in the Fashion Design sector would increase from about 33 to 35 million currently to about 60 to 62 million by 2022. This would translate to an incremental human resource requirement of about 25 million persons. (NSDC Human Resource & Skill Requirement Report - 2009).
Thus a candidate with B.Voc - Fashion Design manufacturing appears to have adequate employment possibilities and avenues in the Fashion Design manufacturing units across the country.
